My Web Idea
I am not sure if they have this already but I think it would be great to have an interactive web site that helps you with live help on resumes and interviews. So you can ask questions or do an interview live with a consultant to help you along and also have teaching videos that instruct you beforehand.

Yea, that would be cool. Like enter in what type of job you are interviewing for and then you can have a mock interview for the job.

I think so too....having quick access like that without having to go anywhere would be great especially if it had to be done quickly for an interview.

This is a great idea! I can't tell you how many interviews I have been on and have felt completely unprepared. Most of the time when I answer the interviewer's questions, I feel like a babbling idiot and would probably not even hire myself! Being prepared and having someone "grade" your interview and give you pointers would be a big help! Also, having help putting a resume together would be awesome. I'm not good at that and would love help. Love this idea!

Thanks, I thought so too...and to have it easily accessible would help in a crunch or in your spare time and you can do it over and over again. Maybe even have a video of yourself so you can observe yourself as well. Thanks again!

Idea of an Interactive Web Site
I am not sure if there is a website like this but I would like one that markets for you. Say if you were in real estate or to sell my jewelry. Something that initiates clients on it's own and generates business. That would save a ton of time and money.

Creating Interactive Web Pages
In this weeks lesson I enjoyed creating an interactive web page. I think it's pretty cool how you can create a page that changes time each time you log in. Also, thought it was great to be able to say hello with a particular name included. Using Javascript helps to create and modify html and I found this technology interesting as well.

Sea Glass Festival, Hyannis, MA
So everyone knows I love to write about sea glass. I just got back from an annual sea glass festival in Hyannis, MA, and I believe there were approx. 6,000 visitors. It was very successful and I got to meet a lot of people. I was on my feet for 12 hrs a day and exhausted by the end of the night. It was also fun to get to meet other artisans and see how talented they were. One women bought 5 pendants off of me for women in her family. Most bought for Christmas gifts so that makes me feel good that many people will be opening up something I made for Christmas and it will make them smile ;0)
JotForm, Ratings and Feedback
I am really loving this class. I especially love creating my own webpage almost to the point that I wish I was taking a different major. I think Graphic Design looks like fun but I was always interested in law too. So I think I will minor in computers. Hopefully, I can handle that type of class especially an online class.
I really liked creating a JotForm as well and think it's pretty cool to be able to rate someones site and leave feedback. It was interesting how everyone arranged their websites differently. All in all, I think creating a webpage and uploading it to a server is pretty neat!

Web Applications
I find Zillow.com very interesting because when I was a real estate agent, I would visit it quite frequentlyfor information . They use to provide the name of the last owner that purchased the property but they do not provide that information anymore. Miss that part! Zillow has data on 92 million homes across the U.S., not just those homes currently for sale. Not only does it give the value estimates of homes but it offers several features including value changes of each home in a given time frame, aerial views of homes, and prices of comparable homes in the area. Where it can access appropriate public data, it also provides basic information on a given home, such as square footage and the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Users can also get current estimates of homes, if there was a significant change made, such as a recently remodeled kitchen. Zillow provides an application programming interface (API) and developer support network.
As of 2006, Zillow launched three new pieces of functionality which allows users to post homes for sale and set a "Make Me Move" price. Then in 2007, Zillow teamed with Microsoft to offer Bird's Eye View, a feature in Microsoft Virtual Earth that shows clearer aerial photographs in some areas that are taken from airplanes rather than conventional satellite imagery. Zillow uses this functionality for entertainment focused features on famous homes.
Zillow reports on individual units, such as providing street address, latitude and longitude. When integrated with the features of a typical online reverse telephone directory and wiki-mapping services, such a Wikimapia.

I checked out this site because I know my parents just got their house appraised so I wanted to see if it was the same as we heard. It was actually much lower on the website, compared to what we heard back from the realators proably because of updates and such but it gives an approximate price for so many houses. I thought it was funny that you could just look up anyone's address and see how much their house is worth.

My Jewelry
I am heading to a huge sea glass festival for Columbus Day Weekend and trying to take 3 midterms and prepare for it. I am keeping up but tired and if I get lucky, I will be done just in time to get more homework on Sunday ;0) And, then I have to work my tail off to get that done so I can focus on the festival. It will be at the Hyannis Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis, MA, if anyone is interested in attending. But let me warn you now, it will be packed. If there is a festival that I should do, it's this one. I wish I hadn't committed but if I hadn't, I would have regretted it. So we shall see what happens!!!!

The differences can be distinguished microscopically.

Copyright protection laws that were associated with printed material now govern the use of audio, video, images, and text on the Internet and the World Wide Web. The intuitive interface of the World Wide Web makes it easy for the computer user to copy and use images, text, video and other graphics that are likely to be protected by copyright. A document may be copyrighted even if it does not explicitly state that it is copyrighted. People can avoid copyright violations and legally use copyrighted materials if they comply with fair use guidelines. The distinction between fair use and infringement may be unclear and not easily defined. There is no specific number of words, lines, or notes that may safely be taken without permission. The safest course of action is to get permission from the copyright owner before using copyrighted material.

Communication Via the Internet
I think the internet is the best thing that ever happened to us other than cell phones. I can remember the very first time I hook up to it in 1997 and heard "You've Got Mail". I thought I died and went to heaven! My daughter was sitting next to me and she was very young. Even she could appreciate the wonder of it all and we both sat there will our mouths just hanging open until we got use to the idea.
Then we couldn't wait to begin. We just went around clicking pictures until we got the hang of it. I do remember that there were not so many sources to confuse you when you did a search as there are today. Now everyone is striving for page ranking and paying for sponsored sites. It is almost aggravating to weed through them all to find what you want. I think we have all gotten better at using keywords to do a search knowing that people will use them to get you to a site that you have no interest in.

Copying and Pasting a Word Document
You can copy and paste a word document. Open the word document by highlighting and copying the entire document. At your browser, navigate to blogger.com and then to your blog. Sign in with your Google credentials with your username/password. Click on New Post, Title it and then click on HTML. Then click on the text area and click on Paste. Save and Publish Post. It will look like the word document I have below.

"Black" sea glass is rarely found and often originates from pre-1860 glass that is actually dark olive green. Some black sea glass is found around Australia, originating from 1940s beer bottles. Its rarity is due to the obscure materials that were used with glass to make the bottles, which increased its rate of decomposition.
Generally, seaglass has local origins, finished pieces have rarely more than a few miles from where the material was discarded.

Expectations
My expectations for this class are to explore the internet in more detail, learn blogging and find out things I never knew existed.
After looking at several of my fellow students blogs, I chose David Daley's blog at http://daleyd.blogspost.com/ and commented on his ME post. I mentioned that I would like to know more about his time living in South Korea. He likes to cook so maybe he has some good recipes for me ;)
I love to read blogs dealing with arts and crafts. Also, like to read recipes and how to's. Always browsing the internet to learn something new.

There are many people all over the world who either have a full time online business or a part time business to earn extra income. I started my own online jewelry business as a hobby and I enjoy every minute of it and here it is www.jewelrybycolleenmarie.com The opportunity to work at home in your pajamas was very appealing to me ;0) My goal was to earn money online or to build a full blown home based online business. These business opportunities are wide open to anyone that has something that someone wants. However, I must warn you because there are many scammers out on the web who promote these “get rich quick” schemes and promise you hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars overnight. I always loved crafts and just by chance found myself interested in wire wrapping and that is how it all started. Using wire wrapping and my love of sea glass gave me the incentive to make jewelry out of it and possibly sell it. I sold it in several ocean side stores but the travel and maintenance took me away from the passion of making jewelry in my studio. The internet was just the perfect place to take it and when I wake up, I turn on my computer and like magic, there is are orders to fill and ship out!
About Me
My name is Colleen Flanagan and I live in North Andover, MA. I am majoring in Criminal Justice and have already received my Paralegal Certificate last semester. I have an online jewelry business and work from home. After this semester, I will have 9 more classes in order to obtain my degree. This is very exciting for me and I would like to go on for a Master's Degree.
